Why go on Erasmus?
People love comfort and habits.It’s perfectly natural to enjoy a surrounding where you feel comfortable and where you are used to things as they are.
However, from time to time a big change is a step forward, maybe the impact will not be seen immediately but it may have positive influence in your future.
It’s not an easy step to leave your home,city and country and go to another unknown place for a few months while leaving everything behind.
You may not realize it at the moment but such a decision may influence many of the following years in your adult life.
We believe there are a few long term benefits when deciding to go on Erasmus
It’s a big change
When you finally decide to take this step, you have to leave your family, friends and colleagues for a few months, or even a year. This is a hard thing to do, but you can always visit them and they can visit you in your Erasmus destination country.
Of course, this is a huge change and not an easy decision but you will prove yourself to be a brave and adventurous person.
New country
Coming to a new country is always an interesting experience, even traveling for a short time is an enriching experience and you can only imagine the benefits of staying a few months and learning hundreds of new things and experiences.
New people
It’s in the nature of human beings to meet and seek alike so experiencing a new and different culture and people is a positive cultural shock. Open-minded people who travel a lot and meet dozens of new cultures and people have a great chance to make lifetime friends in various countries worldwide.
Think about having friends from all over the world, sounds cool, right?
Traveling
The older you get, the less time you will have to travel, this is definitely a true sentence. One of the best things when it comes to Erasmus and student exchange experiences is traveling. Visiting
neighboring countries and traveling in your Erasmus destination should be an amazing thing to do. You will be able to learn many things about the countries you travel which you cannot find online and definitely cannot experience it online.
This will always but something you will remember with a smile.
Making friends
It’s not easy to make new friends everywhere and all the time, a friendship is something special and it should be appreciated. Although many people from many different countries will be with you in your Erasmus destination you will probably make friends with some that you like and which are similar to you, this is normal and you cannot be friends with everyone.
However, once you find great people you will always be able to visit them or they can visit you, maybe even work together in the future or find love, you never know.
Learning a new language
Maybe your English language skills are not too high, maybe you are a native speaker, it doesn’t matter.
When you are in a new country you will have to speak either English or another language, this is why Erasmus is a great opportunity to enhance your English skills and possibly learn a few words or basic sentences from another language, it will make your life easier and it will be appreciated by the locals.
