Tenants/Cleaning
What is normal cleaning vs. damage?

Cleaning covers things like:

  • dust, dirt, limescale, soap residue, grease,
  • food spills, stains on worktops,
  • dirty floors, dirty bathroom and kitchen surfaces.

Damage is something that cannot be fixed by cleaning alone, for example:

  • burns or deep scratches on furniture or floors,
  • broken glass, tiles or fixtures,
  • mould caused by very poor ventilation and long-term neglect,
  • permanent stains on mattresses, sofas or carpets.

Normal cleaning costs are your responsibility as a tenant. Damage can lead to repair or replacement costs, which may be charged separately or deducted from your deposit.
