Cleaning covers things like:
- dust, dirt, limescale, soap residue, grease,
- food spills, stains on worktops,
- dirty floors, dirty bathroom and kitchen surfaces.
Damage is something that cannot be fixed by cleaning alone, for example:
- burns or deep scratches on furniture or floors,
- broken glass, tiles or fixtures,
- mould caused by very poor ventilation and long-term neglect,
- permanent stains on mattresses, sofas or carpets.
Normal cleaning costs are your responsibility as a tenant. Damage can lead to repair or replacement costs, which may be charged separately or deducted from your deposit.
